Highlights of the gluing (and soldering) extravaganza at Brighton Science Festival on Sunday 22nd February…

Our event for the Brighton Science Festival at Circus Street Community kicked off with a flurry of shoe gluing activity.

Many a worn sole needed to be reunited with it’s upper with the help of contact adhesive.

Milliput came to the rescue.

When Zoe and Bruce wanted to fix Zoe’s 1st Judo trophy – The Achievement Award!

Victoria glued the ribbon back on to her hubby’s hat…

Michael, one of our newest volunteers, managed to fix Betty’s lamp.

The tube threaded on the outside had worked it’s way loose and up. It was repositioned and tightened again.

Despite the cold, the turn out was excellent…

After braving the sight of her beloved headphones being taken apart

Kirsty was over the moon that Mattia had helped her to fix them.

Michael showed us how to weld plastic to plastic using a soldering iron!

Check out the welding on this once cracked hoover nozzle!

And a wedding cake decoration fixed using the welding technique.

Sugru was used to mend the cracked handle on this knife

before it was wrapped up carefully and left to set.

We even had a homemade Beginner’s Guide to Glue with home-made glue recipes on the back.

We still have copies of these A3 posters available by donation. If you would like a copy please get in touch, we can send them by post or will have them available at our future events.

Unfortunately one item  – a toaster – was deemed beyond repair but Cat from Freegle was pleased to take it away and give it to Exploring Senses who will make robots out of the parts so it won’t go to waste!

Thanks to Sugru for their generous donation of many sachets of Sugru, to the Circus Street Community Centre for hosting the event, to Tom for providing lovely hot soup from the Soup Dept van (usually found outside the Brighton Woodstore) , to Brighton Science Festival for inviting us to participate and of course to all of our amazing volunteers who give there time, skills and enthusiasm to help others learn to repair their things.
